Red Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis)*: Packed full of antioxidants, the deep red bark of this South African shrub is fermented and dried to create a wonderfully full-bodied tea. Naturally free from caffeine, the iron properties of rooibos are efficiently absorbed into the body thanks to its low tannin content.
Jamaican Sarsaparilla (Smilax regelii)†: Commonly known as one of the original ingredients in root beer, this naturally sweet root contains flavourful hints of vanilla, licorice, and caramel. In addition to its healthy dose of nonheme iron, sarsaparilla contains antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients which help to lower inflammation, alleviate skin dermatitis, and improve eye, heart, and gut health.
Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus)*: Considered one of the best iron-rich, detoxifying herbs on the market, yellow dock stimulates bile production, which helps the body to break down fats and lipids more efficiently. It's anti-inflammatory and astringent properties help clear up common skin ailments, and its high nonheme iron content assist with promoting healthy blood cells, strong capilleries (goodbye, spider veins), and a boosted immune system.
Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale)*: Dandelion root is an excellent diuretic which helps to produce more urine to flush out excess water, sodium, and toxins from the kidneys. This in turn helps to regulate blood pressure and keep your heart working optimally. Thanks to its antiviral and antibacterial properties, dandelion helps to improve the immune system and keep the bad germs at bay. Its quantity of plant-based iron helps to purify the blood, reduce blood sugar, prevent heart failure, promote healthy liver and intestine function, and fight inflammation.
Burdock Root (Arctium lappa)*: Closely related to daisies and sunflowers, this mighty root does wonders to help 'purify' the blood by removing toxins and increasing overall blood flow throughout the body. Its cleansing properties can help clear up skin issues such as acne and eczema, and it contains powerful antioxidants such as luteolin, quercetin, and phenolic acids which help to protect the body from oxidative stress (which both creates and feeds cancer cells). It also boasts properties of both iron and vitamin C, to help your body properly absorb all the iron-rich goodness in this blend.
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)*: Ginger adds a deeply warming element to this tea blend by improving circulation and blood flow. It provides just a touch of spice to balance out the herbal flavours of this blend while reducing blood pressure, fighting inflammation, and easing digestive upset.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)*: Also known as Ceylon, or 'true' cinnamon, this beautiful bark is slightly less sweet than its more commonly used Cassia variety, and also boasts a lower concentration of coumarins (which can negatively affect liver and kidney function in large doses). True cinnamon is excellent at warming the body by increasing blood flow, and helps to support the respiratory, nervous, circulatory, urinary, and reproductive systems.
Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)*: Licorice root is naturally high in iron, and helps to improve blood flow, increase libido, reduce inflammation, and as a bonus, adds some sweetness to balance out the more bitter components of this iron-rich blend.
Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica)*: Nettle is commonly known as a pesky stinging plant that delivers a plethora of essential vitamins and minerals when consumed (don't worry, it loses its ability to 'sting' when dried)! It contains a healthy dose of nonheme iron along with vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, and potassium as well as antioxidants to keep your blood and body working at its best.
Rosehips (Rosa canina)*: These beautiful little buds appear after a rose has finished flowering, and present themselves as small, round, smooth, seedy fruits rich in vitamin C. This makes them the ideal partner for iron-rich herbs, as vitamin C helps your body to absorb iron more efficiently. They are also rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, and carotenoids which help prevent the breakdown of collagen, thus slowing the signs of aging.
