Red Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis)*: Packed full of antioxidants, the deep red bark of this South African shrub is fermented and dried to create a wonderfully full-bodied tea. Naturally free from caffeine, the mineral-rich properties (including iron) of rooibos are efficiently absorbed into the body thanks to its low tannin content.
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)*: Ginger adds a deeply warming element to this tea blend by improving circulation and blood flow. It provides the classic spiciness we expect from a chai while reducing blood pressure, fighting inflammation, and easing digestive upset.
Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)*: Licorice root is naturally high in iron, and helps to improve blood flow, increase libido, reduce inflammation, and as a bonus, adds some sweetness to balance out the more bitter components of this iron-rich blend.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)*: The spicy/sweet bark of the cinnamomum tree has been long revered for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It helps to warm the body from the inside out by increasing blood flow, while supporting the respiratory, nervous, circulatory, urinary, and reproductive systems. At Flourish Apothecary, we utilize only true (ceylon) cinnamon, instead of the more commonly-used cassia variety, as it contains only a trace amount of coumarins (a compound which can be toxic to the liver when consumed frequently).
Orange Peel (Citrus sinensis)*: Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, the peel of organic oranges has been said to contain more health benefits than the fruit itself! In addition to adding a slightly bitter citrusy flavour to our chai, orange peel can help to improve digestion, regulate blood sugar, and enhance available collagen in the body to combat signs of aging.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)*: This ancient ayurvedic herb is renowned for its stress-relieving, adrenal-supporting, memory-boosting, performance-improving, and anti-inflammatory benefits. If anything within your body is seeking balance, ashwagandha is likely going to help you out with it. It has also been shown to help with sleep quality, fertility, and reducing blood sugar levels!
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)*: Cardamom is a staple ingredient in chai, not only for it's delicious and unique taste, but for its health properties as well. It contains antioxidants and anti-cancer compounds, while also being anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial.
Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum)*: Native to eastern Indonesia, clove spice comes from the aromatic flower buds of the Syzygium aromaticum tree. It has a classic, comforting flavour reminiscent of warm apple pie, cider, and holiday baking, and provides anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties when consumed.
